Beautiful Beaches
Beautiful beaches in Margaret River
The Margaret River region is bordered by 138 kilometres of sparkling coastline abundant with natural beauty, colour and marine life. From rugged rocky bays, dramatic limestone cliffs, secluded white sandy beaches, calm crystal clear waters to thunderous surf – it’s an aquatic playground waiting to be discovered!
Swimming beaches
For a lazy day on the beach and safe swimming you can take your pick from a bevy of untouched and uncrowded beaches. Don’t forget to take sunscreen, a hat, water and of course, a picnic. My favourite swimming beaches are Gnarabup, Prevelly, Boodjidup, Gracetown, and the rock pools at Redgate. Gnarabup and Prevelly beaches are directly in front of the beach house. Both are walking distance. There’s a walking/cycle track which expands along the bay. I can recommend a morning stroll down to Gnarabup and breakfast or a latte at The White Elephant!
In the summer months, the protected northern beaches of Dunsborough attract little jellyfish which can sting like crazy. If you do dive into the picturesque turquoise waters and get stung by one of these little buggers, rub sand on the sting and head to the chemist for some ‘stinggoes’! The Margaret River coastline doesn’t suffer from the stingers!
Tip : Heading south to Hamelin Bay? Make sure you check out the resident stingrapys at Hamilin Bay, the new refurbished Jewel Cave and the Leeuwin Lighthouse.
Tip : If you’re heading north, pop into Mealup Gourmet in Dunsborough and collect a yummy takeaway picnic to enjoy at Eagle Bay, Castle Rock or Meelup Beach! For other things to do up in that neck of woods, check out www.geographebay.com.au
