Vasse Felix DiningIt’s easy to see why Vasse Felix has cemented itself as one of the region’s finest vineyard restaurants.

After browsing through the impressive Holmes A Court art gallery we headed upstairs for a long leisurely lunch. The contemporary restaurant decor is understated and enjoys expansive vistas over the vines, an ideal choice for a friends special birthday celebration.

Choosing between the degustation or a la carte was tormenting, popular vote went to a la carte option! The next dilemma was what to choose a la carte (mmmm, maybe we should have chosen the degustation).

The knowledgeable waitstaff educated us on the menu explaining, “The ingredients are listed, so if you like the ingredients, you’ll love the dish”.

For entree Ron and I ordered the Kangaroo, macadamia, saltbush and (2nd entree) Kingfish, cucumber, fig leaf, ginger.

The kangaroo was delightfully tender, served on a soft macadamia mash dusted with light shavings of saltbush. Then the kingfish, beautifully seared and lightly sandwiched between silky cucumber all delicately drizzled with a fig and ginger anglaise. Both entrees a serious highlight to the pre-dinner show!

For main course we both ordered Today’s fish, scallop, miso, seaweed. Having asked our attentive waitress how the dish was presented I experienced way more than I bargained for. Beautifully seared fish, the scallop delicately created into a light flavoursome mousse sparingly coated in black and white sesame seeds, served with a miso broth drizzle and fine yet crispy seaweed accompaniment. Simply a taste sensation.

Mains were accompanied by two extraordinary side dishes, Lettuce, anchovies, black garlic and Tomato, nouc cham, basil, both delightfully clean and well balanced.

Perfectly paired Heytesbury wines, chosen by our wine aficionado Nola from Lifestyle Margaret River, complimented the meals perfectly.

In hindsight, I think the degustation with matching wine would be sensational, taking the hard work out of going to lunch. (Ouch, did I just say that.)

Vasse Felix is definitely one of our favourite vineyard restaurants, the best of the best, one we confidently recommend to guests staying at The Roozen Residence. For restaurant bookings phone (08) 9756 5000.
