MARGARET River, just 12 months on from devastating bushfires, has been voted Australia’s favourite town by holidaymakers for the second consecutive year. Margaret River, famous for its wine and surf, outshone other popular holiday towns including Broome and Byron Bay to be named ‘Best Town in Australia’ by the readers of Australian Traveller.  The awards are the only consumer awards for tourism in Australia. “Being voted by travellers themselves, the survey results are an accurate mark of what Australians recognise as the best adventures and destinations in Australia” said Georgia Rickard, editor of Australian Traveller magazine.

Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association’s CEO Simon Ambrose was thrilled with the announcement.  “This is an outstanding accolade – to be voted Best Town in Australia for the second year in a row is just phenomenal.

“The fact that this award is designated by visitors themselves is testament to the high quality tourism product in Margaret River and its surrounds.

“The Margaret River region is a world class tourism destination, and the entire region from Busselton to Augusta can be proud of this achievement.

“We are delighted that the readers of Australian Traveller cherish Margaret River as much as we do – the region offers such diversity of experiences, from world class food and wine, adventure activities, to pristine beaches and stunning natural attractions,” said Mr Ambrose.
